Continuous Cast Iron

BS1452 | EN16482 | Unibar 250

Cast iron specification EN16482 (Grade 250) is supplied as continuous cast grey iron bar in rounds and flats, squares and hexagonals. With its fine grain structure this grade can be machined to achieve a good polished surface finish suitable for copper or chromium plating.

As a continuous cast iron bar it has a fine grain structure combined with the fine graphite flake size and dense homogeneous structure. We also stock a wide range of SG Iron.

Unibar 250 Conforms with EN-GJL-250C (EN 16482). It offers a good combination of strength and wear resistance compared to Unibar 200, while still possessing good machinability and an excellent surface finish. Unibar 250’s graphite structure delivers excellent grade properties including noise and vibration damping, as well as thermal conductivity.

Unibar 250 is not recommended for hardening or heat treatment applications.

Steel stock range

High Peak Steels stock Continuous Cast Iron (250) in round, flat, square and hexagonal bar.

Supply condition: As-cast, turned, peeled, milled and cut.

Length: Standard 3080 mm (or enquire).

Associated standards

Conforms with EN-GJL-250C (EN 16482)

Brinell Hardness (HB)

Test 10mm dia Ball 3000Kg load depending on section size, Hardness readings are taken across the entire section of the bar. Hardness values for rectangles depend on the ratio of height to width and can be supplied upon request.

Microstructure

Contains type ‘A’ graphite flakes in accordance with ISO 945. The rim contains fine Type ‘D’ and ‘E’ interdendritic graphite. The matrix is greater than 50% pearlitic. The rim is predominantly ferritic, and many contain up to 5% dispersed fine carbides.
