EN3A | 070M20 is a general engineering steel, suitable in applications where heavy stresses and heat treatment are not involved, such as welded and riveted structures, forgings, machined parts and hot pressing. High Peak Steels stock this in a range of sizes and shapes.
It is a bright drawn, or turned, mild steel with good machinability. Ideal for use in a variety of general engineering applications. EN3A | 070M20 can be case hardened and is normally supplied in the as drawn / as turned condition. EN3A | 070M20 steel will withstand a moderate amount of cold deformation and only offers low strength but good machinability. The material has good weldability characteristics however it has poor hardenability.
Overall a general-purpose mild steel, readily weldable and suitable for case hardening.
Flat sections are of particular suited to tool makers.
For wider applications where case hardening is critical engineers can choose EN3B with a refined analysis that conforms to EN32 | 080A15.
