A Glossop firm’s steely determination

Since Covid-19 kicked in earlier this year, the Glossop steel stockholders have supplied engineering industries throughout the north of England who wanted:

• Steel available for collection early morning for a ship that had broken down and needed to go back to Holland that night with grain for urgent food supplies.
• Steel quickly for the NHS for use in the manufacture of dry ice machines which transport organ transplants which are critical for a quick turnaround.
• Steel to make parts to keep maintenance departments open at medical air plants which keep hospitals up and running due to the extra pressure they have been under to stop them failing.
• Steel from Glossop has also gone to make extra supermarket trolleys and for parts for freight trains rolling stock picking up and delivering medical equipment from all over the UK.
• Mark and Anne set up High Peak Steels in 1985 when they were both 21.

Their aim was to deliver a fast and efficient delivery service to engineering customers – they have worked tirelessly over the years to achieve this.

Now the coronavirus has hit many industries, High Peak Steels needed to adapt to the fast-changing situation. They were getting calls from key suppliers to the NHS, food and pharmaceutical industries.

It became apparent very quickly that they were a critical supplier to engineers who maintain such a service.

There was a desperate need for a steel stockholder who could deliver on time and in full.

The family firm said other stockholders were closing, but High Peak Steels felt it was important to have a company engineers could turn to and rely upon.

Mark and Anne say:
“Some of our key workers have had to stay at home due to health reasons, but the remaining staff have been amazing, supportive and hard-working through all this extra pressure and without them it would have been impossible to have carried on.”
